Guidelines for Chuo University Students Regarding the Spread of Coronavirus
(Update 12 / November 1 version)

Chuo University

To prevent the spread of the new coronavirus infection, Chuo University previously established the Guidelines for Chuo University Students Regarding the Spread of Coronavirus (Update 11 / October 1 version), which includes restricting entry to the campus, the use of facilities, and students’ extracurricular activities. In view of the impact of infection on social life, we have revised the content of the Guidelines as follows.

In view of the present social conditions, the University will continue to restrict entry to the campus, the use of facilities, and students’ extracurricular activities for the time being, with the exception of the following activities:

Entry to the campus is permitted for the following activities:

1. Entry for taking face-to-face classes
2. Entry for research activities
3. Entry for attending university-hosted events, courses, briefings, seminars, or guidance
4. Using the library, the Career Center, the Honoo-no-Tou Research Building, and other facilities
5. Activities by groups authorized by the Association of Student Clubs, subject to prior approval regarding the contents of the activities
6. Using the athletic facilities of the Student Affairs Office, subject to prior approval regarding the contents of the activities
7. Using the facilities, subject to prior approval regarding the contents of the extracurricular activities
8. Activities by groups that have laboratories in the Honoo-no-Tou Research Building

* Prior notification and permission may be required for activities 2 to 8 above. For details, check here.

* Please refrain from entering the campus for non-essential/non-urgent activities to the extent possible.

* Activities by a large number of people that involve gathering, close contact, or face-to-face meetings without taking prevention measures described below (Precautions for entering campuses) are not permitted.

Regarding the entry restriction and limitations on the use of the campus, permission or notification may be required for each occasion when entering the campus or using a facility, depending on the characteristics of the organizations and facilities on each campus. After following the necessary procedures, students will be allowed to enter the campuses or use the facilities. Please see here for specific on-campus activities that may be permitted upon approval or notification.

〇 Precautions for entering campuses

Please observe the following rules when you enter the campus. If you feel unwell, do not come to the campus.
1. Avoid the 3Cs (closed spaces, crowded places, close contact) → Make sure the location of the activity does not fall into the 3Cs.
2. Wear a mask → Compulsory to prevent the spread of infection.
3. Handwashing → Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water at lavatories on campus.
4. Social distancing → Avoid close contact and keep one to two meters distance between yourself and others.
5. No conversations during meals → Preventing transmission of the virus through saliva droplets is of the utmost importance.

Before entering the campus

? From two weeks prior, monitor your health condition (take your body temperature, check your condition) every day, and make sure you have no symptoms. Keep health condition records every day and carry them with you. If you have a fever (over 37.5 degrees Celsius) or are in poor condition, you will not be allowed to enter the campus until eight days have passed since the symptoms first appeared. (For details, see the Rules for Permission of Entry to the Campus.) When you use a facility or attend an activity on campus, show your body temperature records if you are asked to do so.
[Body temperature recorder]
A body temperature recorder app for smartphones is available. Use the app for keeping records. A body temperature recorder app is pre-installed in the iPhone.
? Carry and wear a mask.
? Carry personal infection prevention items, such as disinfection wet tissues or gel.
? Pay attention to information on confirmed cases in your living and activity area.
? Install the COVID-19 Contact Confirmation App (COCOA) provided by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare on your phone.

On campus

? Bring your entry permission email to the campus and show it when asked.
? Make sure to maintain appropriate physical distance.
? Minimize the time spent on campus.
? Upon arriving at the campus, immediately wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water at the nearest lavatory.
? Open the windows and doors of the facility you are using at least 5 to 10 cm (or more preferably) for natural ventilation.
? If there are instructions regarding passage (such as walk to the left) or designated entrances and exits, follow the instructions.
? Wear a mask on campus, but be careful about heatstroke in the summer.
? Avoid touching door handles and elevator buttons with bare hands whenever possible.
? While you are on campus, wash your hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and water.
? Do not talk during meals. After meals, wear a mask when you talk.
? Keep a record of the people you have interacted with on campus and the times you enter and leave.

○ Precautions in your daily life

Many of these precautions are general and basic socially-requested precautions that apply not only to entry to the campus but also in your daily life. All students should be aware of these precautions not only with regard to time spent on campus but also during daily life activities. Follow the new lifestyle recommended by the government and avoid any actions which cause the five occasions associated with high infection risk.

○ Notifications from Chuo University

Notifications and reminders from the University will be made on the Chuo University website, C-plus, manaba, and other media. Chuo will also send notices in English from time to time. Please check them regularly.

○ Office Contact

As entry restrictions continue, face-to-face consultations at university offices are available only for students who come to the campus for classes or activities for which entry to campus is requested and permitted in advance. For general inquiries, please use the inquiry form of the relevant section, which can be found on the Chuo University official website [Inquiry] or [Inquiry Form English]. Please note that it may take time to receive a reply, depending on the inquiry.
For phone inquiries, please check the office hours and contact phone number of each section in advance on the website.
